Our 2007 Workshops

 The Construyendo un futuro project - phase (1) took place in the Central Peruvian Andes from March to September 2007.

In this stage of the project, rural female students (15-19 years of age) actively participated in a series of workshops, in which local specialists (educators, psychologists, registered nurses, and technicians) shared critical professional and personal information. The students had the opportunity to ask about and discuss several sensitive topics. The specialists played a key role acting as advocates, particularly in domestic violence cases. The workshops included:

*      Vocational Direction (I – II)

*      Self-esteem and Self-efficacy  (I – II)

*      Sex Education and Gender Issues (I – II)

*      Domestic Violence and women (I – II)

For most students attending these workshops, this was the first time that they experienced such interaction with professionals, who were willing to personally work with them and listen to their needs.

For these students, these workshops offered the opportunity to learn about new topics, have mutual support, and share personal experiences. Most importantly, they returned home with important information about their individual and family rights.

  Testimonio 1: Working with these young women has become an inspiration and a learning experience for Verónica Huamán, our local coordinator in the Central Andes.

  Testimonio 2: Read some testimonials from young women whose lives were touched by our workshops.
