“On my first day at the rural school, the principal introduced me to the local students and my first impression of them was that they were very respectful and excited about our project. During the workshops the students showed interest and enthusiasm even though they were a little shy at the beginning. They have showed a great interest in our workshops on self-esteem, domestic violence, and vocational direction. I see that they are applying the information given at the workshops and they feel empowered to stop violence against them and their family members. One thing that really touched me was the time when I found two of our students walking a great distance from their homes to our workshop location. They seemed to be tired because of their work at home and in the lands but their interest in our workshops moved them to attend. I realized then how important and useful are these kind of gatherings for them. They are eager to listen and to be heard as well as to interact and learn from the speakers. I love what I am doing in Killari and the way students are responding to Killari’s initiative.”
